"How bad is it, Sergeant?"
"Not good, Sir. He's taken down two of our boys already - Hodgson took two in the arm, and Banning is in a bad way. Bullet's near the heart and he's touch and go. Paramedics just arrived and they're not hopeful."
"God damn it. Any civilians in danger?"
"That's the problem, Sir. There were about 12 people on the field when he first fired. They ran towards the old boathouse and the bloody thing's U shaped. Windows and doors are boarded up - they're trapped there and he's approaching them."
"My God. Do you think he'll fire on them?"
"He's chasing them down and he's fired already - I don't think we can take the risk."
"I agree. Can we get a sniper on the bastard?"
"Not in time, Sir. We don't have any rifles, just the standard Colt pistols. Anything heavier would have to be brought in."
"Shit... What's he carrying?"
"Automatic rifle, looks like a basic Kalshnikov. He's fired eight rounds so far, so we have to assume that he's got at least twenty shots left. And Hodgson said he's got an old revolver hanging from his belt, so even if he drops the rifle he still poses a threat."
"We need to do something, Sergeant. Do you have a plan?"
"We've got enough bulletproofs and arms for each of us. I think if we make a run for him, from behind, we may be able to take him down before he can react."
"What if he sees you coming? It's a bloody open field!"
"His rifle's got a far greater range than our Colts, but the jackets should be able to absorb most of the damage from a distance..."
"Providing you're hit in the chest. And up close is a different matter... Are your boys prepared for this?"
"Absolutely, Sir. We're all willing to take the risk. We don't have time for anything else."
"Then... I can see no other options, Sergeant."
"Very well, Sir. Permission to take him down?"
"...If only we knew who the bastard is..."
"We do. Hodgson recognised him - it's Mr. Kipling."
"Mr. Kipling? I'm not giving you permission to harm Mr. Kipling!"
"But Sir, he's on an armed rampage! We have to do something!"
"That's all very well Sergeant, but he does make exceedingly good cakes. Pass me an almond slice, would you?"
