Vicki Goodwin is currently Assistant Director at the Open University in the West Midlands where she has responsibility for teaching, learning and student support. Through her working life she has taught both children and adults. Her interest and experience with teaching English and modern languages at secondary level eventually brought her to dyslexia. She gained the RSA Diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties in 1993 and in Humanistic Counselling in 1997. She was member of the UK’s National Working Party that produced the comprehensive report on Dyslexia in Higher Education (1999) and chaired the Open University’s working group on dyslexia, from its first meetings up until 2003.

Bonita Thomson is a consultant and practitioner in adult dyslexia. She has worked extensively in Further and Higher Education in the UK, initially in geology which led to her interests in working with disabled students in general and dyslexic students in particular. She gained the OCR Diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties in 1999 and now offers assessments and specialised tutoring for dyslexic adults.
Both Vicki and Bonita have worked extensively in the field of adult dyslexia, running regular workshops for students and tutors, and courses for staff. They wrote the Dyslexia Toolkit for Open University students and tutors, an update of their earlier and highly successful Adult Students and Dyslexia. Their work together for dyslexic students was acknowledged in 2001 when they were awarded the top Teaching Award in the Open University.
