Open Door
The weekly Lunch Club, founded some 12 years ago and held on Thursdays in Warton Parish Room, continues to flourish, catering on average for over 30 people each session.
A varied menu of home-cooked main courses, accompanied by freshly cooked vegetables, followed by a mouth-watering array of puddings, is available at a very modest cost.
But for many it is much more than an opportunity to eat a good hot meal prepared by others: it is a chance to get out and meet up with friends on a regular basis, to share both joys and troubles. Birthdays are celebrated with wine, cake and song, whilst prayers can be offered for those in need. You don't have to live in Warton to participate; people come from Austrey, Newton Regis, Polesworth, Baddesley and other surrounding villages. You don't have to commit to coming every week; drop in when you're free.
Any profit the organisation makes is donated to a wide range of charitable causes; last year donations were made to Tearfund, the Air Ambulance, the Salvation Army, charities caring for those with cancer, cystic fibrosis and epilepsy, the blind and the deaf, as well as local events such as the Warton Jubilee and the Austrey Church Tower Fund. None of this would be possible without the efforts of a dedicated band of helpers who prepare and serve the food and clear up afterwards. If you feel you could help in any way, then please contact either Pat Daulman (Tel: 892523) or Jean Walker (Tel: 830165) or simply turn up to enjoy the fruits of others' labours!
