I have some Elm with the most incredibly wild grain patterns as well as knots, pips and spalting that lends itself to something rather special. I had in mind to shape a silver escutcheon for the lock to flow with the patterns in the elm. Fleur Grenier a pewter  worker and member of the surrey guild of craftsmen designed and made the escutcheon for the box seen below. It is made from pewter and silver plated. As soon as this box went into an exhibition it sold and I am now making more, or as many as I can find the raw materials for. This box can only come in the extra large size to suit the size of the silver escutcheon and due to the differing patterns in the Elm, no two will ever be the same, making this a unique collectors item priced around £600. + p&p

The following commissions have  been completed in Oak with similar linings and the pewter escutcheons are now handmade and the fittings silver plated in my own workshop shown below.

This box is under construction at present. The legs are cast in pewter, the body of the box is rippled sycamore and the lid panel is Plane or lacewood. I haven't decided on the interior yet.
