This is a commissioned jewellery box measuring 310 x 210 x 120mm. The carcase is made from Birchwood Ply veneered with Madrone Burr and edged with Padauk. The interior is made from Florida Pencil Cedar, which has a pinkish colour and gives the whole piece a beautiful aroma.

Pacific Madrone grows along the west coast of the united states and is known as the best source of charcoal for gun powder. Madrone is hard as walnut and very strong with an irregular pattern of growth rings. This particular piece is a Madrone Burr. Padauk is one of the Rosewood family and originates from the Camen Islands. When first cut this timber is bright orange and with age turns to a blood red, complementing the Madrone and the pink Florida interior. A dark green cotton velvet padding gives a final touch of quality.

The whole piece is treated with Shellac sanding sealer and sanded to 320 grit finished with fine wire wool and several coats of hard paste wax.

I make two standard sizes of these solid Burr, or plain Oak boxes, medium (290mm x 180 x 95mm)and Large (310 x 210 x 120). The hinges and latch are made from either solid contrasting woods or brass, they can be supplied with or without trays. They are lined with Florida Pencil Cedar and a cotton velvet from the choice below. They are priced at £325 med, and £425 for the large. Please add £28 for a tray (Plus P&P).
The box shown below is the medium size and includes a tray with ring pad and the lid is lined with printed cotton from the bookbinder range.
