This architectural Synchronome master clock (no 591) was first installed in the West Lodge of the Hans Renold factory at Burnage (Manchester) in December 1915. The company became known as Renold Chains.
My father acquired it in 1961 at the time the Renold offices moved to Wythenshawe. My mother refused to have the clock in her house so my father installed it in his Wilmslow office.
I had always admired the clock and he gave it to me in 1975. I installed it at my home and had it running four slaves which also came from Hans Renold. In 1979 I had to buy a new gathering jewel from Tann-Synchronome for £4.00. The clock then worked until 2006. It had become increasingly temperamental, double clicking and slaves going out of sync. In trying to adjust it I eventually broke the gathering jewel. I contacted Ian (syncnetic.co.uk) and he repaired the master and cleaned it and the slaves. The clock is now working properly and well.
