President: Robert Copeland
Some of the finest ceramics ever made anywhere were produced by WT Copeland during the Victorian period, who attracted artists of the calibre of Charles Ferdinand Hürten, Lucien Besche and Samuel Alcock.
The international Exhibitions of the Nineteenth Century provided an opportunity for potters to demonstrate their skills and encouraged them to produce very special works of decorative art.
The Spode Museum houses several Exhibition pieces painted by these artists, along with numerous other Victorian pieces.
