                                                                                         Please  also please note

                                                                                         that the Training for

                                                                                         Members sessions need to be

                                                                                         pre-booked with David

Hopkins and that the       minimum age is 8 years . There is also an expectation  that trainees can swim.

Why am I sending this?  Please refer to David Hopkins letter for an explanation .

The Sail Training and Social Training programme has changed at Delph.  This is a result of a number of factors which I will attempt to explain and summarize.  The club is registered as an approved RYA training Centre and as such has to adhere to specific guidelines when undertaking RYA training sessions.  Previously this function has run alongside Social Sailing for club members and Taste of Sailing for potential new members.  It is of benefit for the club to maintain its status as an RYA Training Centre, not least so that we can go on delivereing recognised Training to club members at a fraction of the cost ofcommercial centres.

Those of you who have seen me trying to organize all 3 components on a Friday evening, not knowing who is coming to learn and who is coming to teach them, may understand the difficulties I have faced. On a number of occasions we have reached the club limit of 50 boats on the water at any one time on Friday evenings.  For safety reasons we need to know who is coming and what they want to do, before  turning up on the beach.

1.      RYA Training Sessions will be provided for members who have pre-booked and will comprise 6 sessions on the water and 4 shore – based sessions in September  RYA certificates awarded to those trainees qualifying.
  1. Social Sailing  as already shown
  2. Taste of Sailing as already shown

The club Officers, Directors and volunteer instructors  trust these arrangements meet with approval and we van go on to enjoy a successful season of none competitive sailing alongside  the club’s race training programme.

David Hopkins               Principal of Training Delph Sailing Club

It has been a somewhat eventful start to the season with the opening day very windy, very wet, one race abandoned and a power failure to the Race Control Centre. The second week of the Early Points series was slightly better with sunshine, wind and hail. For the Laser Open Meeting 30 boats entered the first race and there were about 15 in the last one. The winner was Ian Jones from Dovestones SC and the first Delph boat was Matthew Sharman.

Don McDermott has resigned as Bosun though he will continue to help out this season.  Many thanks to Don for all the work he has done to keep the safety boats operable – maintenance, repairs, fuel etc, jetty and buoys upkeep. If anyone is interested in helping in any one of these areas please contact Gary Stephenson.

The DVD of “Snow White and the Severn Sailors” is now available—please contact Jill Stephenson to order a copy.

Finally please note that work is expected to be carried out on Wednesday 3rd May laying a new cable from the Clubhouse to the Race Control Centre.
