What Exactly is Physical Mediumship?

Physical mediumship is, in general, any form of mediumship that is seen to have a physical effect on the medium, others present, or objects; also, the production of tangible structures. Examples of these phenomena include transfiguration (when the medium's face takes on the features of the spirit communicator), trumpet or independent direct voice (spirit voices are transmitted independently of the medium), apports (objects are materialized in the séance room) materializations (spirit communicators take on a material form and interact with the sitters), psychic surgery (spirit controls carrying out physical operations), psychic photography (spirit 'extras' appear on ordinary photographs) and EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena - extra voices occurring on tape recordings).

Are There Opportunities for Members of the NAS to Witness Physical Mediumship?

Yes, the NAS has venues in various parts of Britain where members can take part in an experimental séance, with one of the NAS's developing physical mediums. The NAS also holds regular experimental séances.

Is The NAS Affiliated To Any Religious Body?

No, it is not affiliated to any other body, religious or otherwise. Although it cannot be denied that the majority of members are Spiritualists, the NAS is open to, and welcomes, all open-minded people who have an interest in physical mediumship and gaining evidence of the survival of death.

What do I get from membershp?

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP:- This entitles members to attend our seminars (closed to non-members), to attend NAS séances, and to vote at the A.G.M. Members also receive the informative bi-monthly Ark Review, which has articles on past and present physical mediumship and provides NAS members with a platform to air their views. The Ark Review offers members a free advertising service to find a circle in their vicinity, or the opportunity to make contact with others of like mind. The NAS Committee will answer queries to the best of their ability, either directly, or by means of the Ark Review.
NB. It is also possible to subscribe for the Ark Review without becoming a member: the cost is less and people abroad or unable to travel sometimes prefer to do this.

CIRCLE MEMBERSHIP:- This encompasses a group of people sitting for the purpose of developing physical mediumship. Each named member of that circle has the same privileges as an Associate Member, except that the circle has only one vote.

Additional Benefits

Each new member, or member circle, receives a copy of the NAS Teaching Booklet, which explains how to sit for physical mediumship. The NAS advises all circle leaders to adhere to these tried and tested instructions until such time as satisfactory communication is made with the circle's controlling operatives who can, should they wish, give special instructions to that circle.
