The SAGB -
Information
A number of people who have
visited this website have asked whether there is any organization in Britain
that organizes sittings with mediums demonstrating mental mediumship, arranges
lectures, and provides other events connected with Spiritualism/survival. One
organization that fits this description is the SAGB (Spiritualist Association of
Great Britain).
Although it is some years since I visited the SAGB, I regularly attended
sittings, lectures and demonstrations in the mid-1970s and was very impressed by
what I saw. In fact, it was at the SAGB that I had my first experience of
evidence of survival from a clairaudient medium, and witnessed physical
mediumship for the first time at a series of lectures by the physical medium,
Gordon Higginson.
The following information is therefore provided for the purpose of information
to users.
The SAGB was founded in 1872, as the
Marylebone Spiritualist Association. It is situated in central London in a
Georgian building, close to Victoria railway, underground and coach stations. It
holds two public demonstrations of clairvoyance on weekdays (one each on
Saturdays and Sundays), and also offers private and group sittings with mediums.
There is also trance and psychic art, hypnotherapy and regression sessions
available. For those requiring it, private spiritual healing is offered. Distant
spiritual healing can also be arranged.
The SAGB holds a number of varied program
of workshops and lectures dealing with many aspects of Spiritualism and the
paranormal. It also runs development classes for those seeking to enhance their
own psychic abilities. The SAGB has recently introduced a service of postal
readings for anyone in the world.
The SAGB has a book store area, two lecture rooms and a wing that is used for
private sittings. On the first floor, there is the Oliver Lodge Hall used for
lectures, demonstrations and Sunday services. There is a small chapel and a
library with an extensive range of books on the second floor, with the third
floor being devoted to healing. I understand a range of complementary therapies
will be available soon. There is a cafe on the lower ground floor.
The SAGB is a registered charity and while
seeking to offer the best possible standard of mediumship, stresses that each
and every sitting should be regarded as an experiment.
It publishes Service three times a year that details all events and this is
available for four International Reply Coupons. Details of other activities such
as taped postal sittings or absent healing will be sent on receipt of two
International Reply Coupons. In the UK, Service is available for one pound,
twenty pence, and requests for general information should be accompanied by an
