SOME DUNCALF FAMILIES

  • Family A. All members of this family (including myself) are descended from John Duncalf baptised at Middlewich, Cheshire in 1604. The family migrated through Weaverham to the Frodsham area in the 18th century. There are 769 known descendants with the name Duncalf.
  • Family B. Joseph Duncalf arrived in Weaverham in the late 18th century. His descendants also lived in the Frodsham area of Cheshire. Some of the 441 known descendants of Joseph live in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
  • Family C. John Duncalf, with his wife Mary nee Bate, settled in Wharton, Cheshire in the early 19th century. John may have been born in Liverpool. He has 34 known Duncalf descendants.
  • Family D. This family, descended from a Richard Duncalf, lived in Tong, Shropshire in the 17th and 18th centuries. Many of the 402 known Duncalfe descendants now live in Canada.
  • Family E. William Duncalf, born about 1713 founded this Cheshire branch. The family migrated from Witton to Chester and Hanley, Staffordshire in the mid 18th century. There are 77 known Duncalf descendants including a family in Australia.
  • Family F. Congleton in Cheshire was the base for this family. The earliest known member of Family F was probably born in Prestbury near Macclesfield about 1707. There are 264 known Duncalf descendants.
  • Family G. This family has been traced back to a William Duncalf born about 1750 in the Wolverhampton area of Staffordshire. During the 19th century most of the family lived at Norton in the Moors, Staffordshire. Of the 220 known Duncalf descendants, one family now lives in Australia.
  • Family H. It is believed that  George Duncalf, born about 1820, who founded this family was illegitimate. The family made their home in Liverpool where most of the 220 known descendants still live. Branches of this family also live in Australia and the USA.
  • Family I. The name Gowen appears in every generation of this family. The earliest known Gowen was born about 1590, probably at Prestbury, Cheshire. In the early 18th century. Isaiah Duncalf, one of his descendants, moved to Oldham in Lancashire. The name

changed to Duncuft and that spelling survives today in the Oldham area. There are 273 known Duncalf/Duncuft descendants of Gowen.

  • Family J. For 350 years members of this family lived at Penkridge in Staffordshire. During the 18th century some members of the family moved to Warwickshire, Hertfordshire and London. Of 255 known Duncalfe descendants many now live in Australia.
  • Family K. This is another Cheshire family that can be traced back to a Joseph Duncalf born about 1690 in the Macclesfield area. Joseph has 38 known Duncalf descendants.
  • Family L. The earliest known member of Family L is John Duncalf who married Sarah Chambers at Campsall, Yorkshire in 1713.  Most of the 311 known descendants of Robert stayed in Yorkshire, but one branch migrated to Liverpool and another went to the USA.
  • Family M. Another family from the Macclesfield area of Cheshire. Thomas Duncalf, born about 1698 has 116 known Duncalf descendants.
  • Family N. Several unconnected Cornwall families make up Family N. A branch of one of these families emigrated to Australia in the 19th century, and another branch can be found in the USA. There are 250 names in these family trees.
  • Family P. Several families from Birmingham, Warwickshire are included in this family tree, some of whom moved to London,  but there are more branches to be added. The spelling Duncuff has proved popular with the Birmingham families. 81 individuals are included in these trees at present.
  • Family S.  A family from Wednesbury, Staffordshire, who also use the surname Duncomb or Duncum. Originating from Darlaston, 40 members of this family have been found so far. 
  • Family T. Some of the larger unlinked trees,  mainly from US census returns. 57 individuals.
  • Family V.  Taken mostly from the Heralds' Visitation Pedigrees for Cheshire and Yorkshire, with additions from original sources. 111 individuals from the 14th to the 17th century have been added to this tree. .
