The locking of rings
Before you take any step please read and understand the rules page.
Under Amendment A-1 of the main rules it possible to use a bracelet for a second. If Amendment A-1 is being used, follow all the steps outlined substituting the bracelet for the ring.
Starting a round as a pair
1. Bring to the boil a pan of spring water (bottled spring water can be used)
2. Place both rings in to the boiling water leave the water on the heat for 30 seconds
3. Remove the water from heat and leave to cool without touching the rings or removing the rings (this is to clean them)
4. Wash your hands (some may wish to wash all over before taking steps 5 and 6 but at least clean you hands)
5. The second is to remove the firsts ring from the water and place it on the firsts finger and say,
"Even though you can not possess me, I
belong to you
I give you that which is mine to give,
I shall serve you in those ways you require,
I pledge to you that yours will be the name I cry aloud in the night,
I pledge to you my living and my dying, each equally in your care,
I shall be a shield for your back and you for mine,
I shall not slander you, nor you me,
I shall honour you above all others"
6. The first of the pair is to remove the ring of the second from the water and place on the seconds finger and say,

3. Remove the water from heat and leave to cool without touching the rings or removing the rings (this is to clean them)

5. The first of the pair is to remove the ring of the second from the water* and place on the seconds finger and say
* the firsts ring must enter the water in which the seconds ring has been cleaned e.g. when getting the seconds ring out of the water.
