Region History

The North Staffordshire Region of the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club, was formed way back in 1987 when the area was identified as having sufficient members to warrant the group, Our first meeting took place at the Butchers Arms in Audley at which some 45 members turned up. Since then we haved moved 4 times, first to the Dick Turpin in Newcastle which although a good place to keep an eye on the cars was less than acceptable with regard to meetings as we were not guaranteed exclusive use of the room. Our next move took us to the Bleeding Wolf in Scholar Green (OK not strictly in Stafforshire!) which has a good car park, good room to meet in and does good food! It's drawback was we became more successful and there were to many of us fit in it. We moved on to the Bulls Head in Hanford which has a good size room and reasonable car park, the club night however clashed with a caraoke night so our most recent move has been to the Red Bull in Butt Lane but this necessitated a change in day from Wednesday to Tuesday.

Monthly Reports - August 2005

Unfortunately starting with bad news I have to report the tragic death of Sheila, wife of member Brian Pye. All our sympathy goes to Brian and his family at this sad time. A great turnout of cars on Sunday 7th August for the show at Trentham gardens this year. In the sunshine we had a variety of models from Kevin Bourne's racing car, several XJS's, XK8's and a wide range of saloons. Where have all the series 3 XJ's gone? We didn't get a single one on the stand. Tony Hughes joined us from the Shropshire/Welsh Borders region and in total there were around 25 vehicles on display. We were again treated to a fine range of music from our resident band 'Cadenza Brass Quintet'. Prizewinners this year were as follows, Best Saloon Dave Rockey's XJ Sovereign, Best Sports John Deaville's XK8 convertible, Best visitor was a close choice between an XK150 and the eventual winner Harold Gilman's Daimler Conquest. Winner of the Presidents trophy for the best car of the stand was Dave Ross's MK2. At the club night in August the first raffle prize, a bottle of wine, kindly donated by Dave Ross was won by myself and the second prize, a box of chocolates, won by Dave Ross! As a result of a suggestion by one of our members I am setting up an email group, so if you have access and let me know your details I will be able to warn you in advance of things happening in the region. Four of us went to the Country show at Heaton near Rushton Spencer on the August bank holiday Monday, wet in the morning but sunny and hot in the afternoon. Definitely a show to attend for the many and varied attractions. It's strange to be thinking about this now but we will soon be requesting deposits for our region Christmas meal, this will be held on Saturday 7th January at the Red Bull unless there are any alternative suggestions. The likely format will be a carvery choosing from Turkey, Pork or Beef and the cost will more than likely be around the same as last year. If you would like to join us but cannot attend a club night meeting please give me a call to reserve a place (there is a maximum number of about 36 places available) a deposit of £2 or full payment by the club meeting in December.
