Gin The Dog

Hello, my name is Gin and I'm a Border Collie. I was born in the Lake District which is where I met Bonnie. Unfortunately for them, the family that had owned me from a pup were unable to keep me. Fortunately for her, I decided it would be rather nice to live with Bonnie! At the time, Bonnie was living in the Lake District with her boyfriend Andy. They were living on a campsite, so I had more freedom than most dogs ever have. Bonnie worked at a trekking centre, so we spent many hours up on the fells, Bonnie on horseback, me on paw. After a hard days work, it was back to the campsite, where there was usually someone playing football or Frisbee. Aahh, it’s a hard life being a dog!!!
That was all about nine years ago now, and in that time Bonnie and I have had several homes together, and acquired lots of friends along the way! You will be able to read about them all on the following pages.

Okay, now let me tell you a bit about Border Collies.
Although we are generally friendly, happy dogs, we are not right for everyone. We are highly intelligent (of course!) and get bored very easily. Unfortunately, like most dogs when we get bored we develop bad habits, such as eating your furniture!! However if you are able to spend time with us, take us on lots of lovely walks, and give us things to stimulate our brain - we excel at agility and obedience, then we will be a perfect companion, Loving and loyal.
Like many breeds, we can suffer from specific problems, I myself suffer from epilepsy, brought on from the stress of an operation. The operation was to remove a piece of stick that I had chewed and got stuck in my throat. Please remember, Sticks Can Be Fatal To Dogs.

See Nanook’s page for some information on safe toys.

Well I hope you have enjoyed reading about Border Collies.

Gin in the forest

On the 24th of February 2001, I asked to be let out into the garden, about ten minutes later Colin & Bonnie went to call me in and found me in the duck pond. I had had a fit and as a result had slipped into the pond, they tried to revive me, but that proved to be impossible. I know that both Colin & Bonnie loved me very much and that they will never forget the good times we had together.

Poem for Gin

Gin was a very special dog,
not only to us,
but to everyone that has known her.
She will be greatly missed.
