The Greenock Art Club was established in 1877 and has boasted many a fine artist over the years. James Watt and the late Alec Galt are just two great and respected artists that have graced the club with their membership. The club was set up to encourage and support the arts within the local area. To bring artists together and provide a studio where everyone could meet to encourage one another through their common love of painting.
The club offers a very spacious studio space with separate kitchen and toilet facilities, providing tables and easels for artists to work at. The club also offers a varied programme of activities over the course of the year which include critique nights, demonstrations & workshops from leading prominent artists. On a week to week basis the club is open for general painting activities during the afternoon and evenings. Thursday evenings offer more specialized classes in life drawing and portraiture. The club also have a craft section that meet once a week producing everything from cards and tatting to items of knitwear and other crafts . Below is a typical weekly schedule for the club:
Monday 7:00pm - 10:00pm - general painting The club can be open out with these hours, you only have to phone the club to find out if anyone is there. The club has a lively social calender throughout the year with various outings and events arranged within the club premises. We look forward to seeing you all there.
