Crime Article
Date added: August 2009
According to a report in a national newspaper a government consultation
paper recommends that people should have a say in selecting judges
and how local crimes are prosecuted. This could lead to prosecutions
that now never come to trial.
The idea is to be tested in 30 areas before being introduced nationally
by 2010/11.
Nottingham has been selected as one of the 30.
Beware of thieves stealing chimney and large flower pots that adorn
gardens. With a value often in excess of £60 each they are
an easy target for criminals. Two were stolen from a front garden
on Holme Rd. West Bridgford, recently.
Eight burglaries in Lady Bay in one month is excessive. Two were
at properties just two doors apart in broad daylight. Elsewhere
bikes are being left lying about in gardens and mysteriously go
missing. Again easy targets for thieves who simply ride off on them.
ID cards have arrived at a price. I heard two prices mentioned
on the launch day- £30 and £60. Either way I can’t
imagine a rush to own one.
A teenage criminal refused to wear a Community Payback jacket on
the grounds that it would lead to “humiliation and embarrassment”
( I thought that was the idea). A judge upheld his refusal. but
he must wear the jacket for the rest of his sentence.
First it was sheep and now there’s a new animal recommended
to keeping your lawn in trim. The Antipodean marsupial, Wallaby.
No doubt pet shops are stocking up and preparing for a rush on notices
bearing the legend, “Beware Of The Wallaby”. That should
scare off intruders.
What could prove to be a very effective way of getting householders
to “lock it or loose it”, is being tried out in parts
of Northamptonshire. Police Community Support Officers are touring
housing estates with loud hailers warning residents to check their
security after a spate of burglaries. Cheaper than hiring Britain’s
loudest actor, Brian Blessed, I suppose.
