There is more you can do tho you can also get a Program called Bowser Hijack Baster which will monitor the Internet explorer start, home and search pages for changes in the Registry if changes are found Bowser Hijack Blaster will tell you and give you an option to keep the changes or to deny the changes and go back to what it was before. Another way to stop spyware is to get a Popup blocker which will stop most Hijacks a good Popup blocker is Google toolbar. There you have it the basic and easy way of making your pc secure and safe while on the Internet
If you think you have Spyware then you can download Spybot Search And Destroy and do a scan with it. It finds most Spyware out there today and the best thing is its free and easy to use make sure its updated first by looking here Spybot also has an option called Teatimer which will monitor your pc for suspicious activity or some Spyware makes its way to your pc and if it does it will then report them to you and give you an option to keep what the suspicious activity was doing or to go back to what settings you had before. Another piece of software out there that will scan your pc for Spyware is called Adaware which does the same thing as Spybot does but if you want its Antispyware feature you need to buy the full version. If you thing you have some Spyware and Spybot or Adaware don't find anything come over to Spywareinfo (link up above) and post a Hijackthis log to there forums and me or one of the other experts or helpers will be glad to help you. You need a firewall to stop Hackers getting into your pc. A Firewall sits and monitors your Internet connection or LAN connection and blocks any bad activity like port scanning (from the hacker to see if you have any ports open that he could attack) A firewall can also stop Trojans getting into your pc and it can stop programs from phoning home to send company's your personal information. A good Firewall that i use is A firewall called Kerio 2.1.5 its a great Firewall it does not take your system resources up like some other Firewalls do and there are 3 options you can select they are. Deny all unknown which means it will deny all programs it Don't know to access the Internet and will block them from doing so only letting programs it knows like Internet Explorer through. Ask which will ask you when a Program tries to access the Internet And it will ask you a question deny or permit when a Program tries to access the Internet. You need an Anti Virus because nowadays it is not safe to be on the Internet with out one you can get Viruses from Email, Email attachments, Downloaded programs of wares web sites and p2p networks like Kazza. A Trojan is a bit different to a Virus most Anti Viruses don't find most Trojans because there are many of them some are not even discovered yet. A good Anti Trojan is A piece of Software called Trojan Hunter
Another way to stop getting infected is to keep your pc up to date with the latest updates and patches from Microsoft. If you have Windows Xp make sure you get Service pack 1 as it will stop viruses like Msblast.
If you have Windows Xp make sure you get Service pack 2 when it comes out it is supposed to stop most Malware it will Feature.
Pop up blocker which will stop most Hijackthis and Viruses coming from Pop ups.
Bear in Mind if you want your pc never to be Infected or effected by Malware then the only think i can recommenced is don't connect to the Internet
