| A ferret is a ferret - that's what some people might have you believe. Although all ferrets exhibit certain ferrety traits, each ferret has its own personality.
All ferrets love to play, they run around, jump, chase, wrestle. They can't resist runing down tubes or digging holes and when they've worn themselves out, they will find a cosy spot to sleep soundly for hours. But what makes each individual ferret special? Read on and find out... |

WILLOW She's super intelligent and you can see her working out how to get to places or how to cause trouble. She runs rings around the boy ferrets and really makes them look very dumb. I think she keeps the boys in place and rules the roost. At one point she lived with 4 boys, but currently only lives with Bingo and Casper. She's always been really good accepting new ferrets...well at least boys ones!! until she met Tsuki. Her favorite game is to run, hide and chase - if the boys can keep up. She's suffered from adrenal disease and had successful surgery on the right adrenal gland, had thorough investigations for a breathing problem which unfortunately still exists and surgery to remove her left upper canine. |

CASPER Recently over the last year, he has settled down. Although he still loves exploring and playing, he's not always up to wrestling with Bingo. Casper is unfortunately has always smelt a bit strong, I've my doubts to whether he was castrated properly. He also has suffered adrenal disease and had successful surgery to remove his left adrenal gland. Unfortunately, he has now has progressive kidney failure - so we need to keep a close eye on his health and wellbeing. |

BINGO He was tiny, only weeks old. He has his own story as he's so special. He lived a large part of his early life on his own. He was found on the streets, some kids had brought him in to the RSPCA. He lived with us for a good six months of his life on his own until he was neutered and settled in with the group. This has made him bond very closely to us and he likes human company. If he's in the right mood, if you stroke his shoulders and down his head he will stay in your lap resting. Maybe because he lived on his own for the early part of his very early life, he is a little wary of other ferrets and can actually be a little timid around them and when meeting new ferrets would rather rush in there and be aggressive rather than finding out that other ferrets can be fun. When he wants to play he's a real rascal, he's loves to wrestle roughly and run and attack other ferrets for fun - he's just boisterous and young. Unfortunately, without Bailey, his best friend to play with, who also passed on, he no longer has anyone to rough house with and seems to miss company badly. He has bonded with Casper well, but due to ill health Casper can't rough-house and Willow is too small for Bingo's boisterous fun. When attempting to introduce Bingo to Tsuki and Hershey he was very aggressive towards him and Hershey would hide - so this is the reason we never put the them together, even though we got Tsuki and Hershey for Bingo as company. Silly ferret. When Casper passes away we will need to rethink companions for him. He suffered from a bad case of poisoning at about a year old which I don't believe was treated correctly by the vets we took him to. Ever since, he hasn't been quite the same. He's a little quieter and wears out a little easier. We're just glad he recovered well enough. |

TSUKI When we first got Tsuki she was a right little madam. A bossy jill who wants to get her own way, by using her teeth and is intelligent to boot. She has a nasty streak and it took about a year before she stopped biting us - she's a lot calmer, but she acts like a little princess! I think she is a little nervous in character, possible either due to genetics or possibly the environment from where she was born. She's sister to Hershey and they get on very well together. Out of a few that we saw at the breeder, she played a little calmer, although bouncy she wasn't completely nuts. She loves to chase and run through tubes, trying to outrun and outsmart Hershey. At first she really wasn't people orientated but slowly she's taking more notice of us and coming for a little attention and treats. As she's grown into adulthood, she is a little more aloof and doesn't always want to play. Tony loves her lots and he especially wanted a silver ferret. |

HERSHEY As soon as I was handed Hershey at the breeders, I wanted him. He was a big ball of soft fluff with a character to go with. I miss Bailey who was so cuddly, and I wanted another cuddly boy, which although he's big he isn't the cuddly sort. He's enormous compared to our rescue ferrets. Goes to show what good breeding and correct food can do. There's not a mean bone in his body and all he wants is good food, see what's going on and to play. Unfortunately, he's not the brightest ferret...all braun with little brain. But that's fine with me. Right from the start he likes people and will follow you around and want to be picked up...but only to see what's going on elsewhere. He's a lovely silver chocolate sable colour with dark little feet and pink toes. Which I know all sable ferrets have, but I think is really cute. As he's grown into adulthood, he too has calmed down to the point where he positively horizontal. I thought Tsuki and Hershey could do with a pick-me-up friend and so we found Mojo. |

MOJO He's a complete NUTTER! but completely adorable and loveable. All he wants to do is play, play, play and bounce and there's not a mean bone in his body. We got him to keep Tsuki and Hershey company and didn't know whether those two would accept another ferret as Tsuki is quite aggressive and Hershey is a softy. When we got Mojo he was only a few weeks old, but even at that young age he showed them that he was more than a match for their antics. Soon enough he started growing and over took them in bounce and weight - he showed them whose boss (him!) and they all live very happily together. He's too rough for Tsuki to play with but has been the ideal panacea for Hershey. Last updated January 2008 |
