POLECAT PERSONA

A ferret is a ferret - that's what some people might have you believe. Although all ferrets exhibit certain ferrety traits, each ferret has its own personality.

All ferrets love to play, they run around, jump, chase, wrestle. They can't resist runing down tubes or digging holes and when they've worn themselves out, they will find a cosy spot to sleep soundly for hours. But what makes each individual ferret special? Read on and find out...

GROUP 1 - HERSHEY, TSUKI AND MOJO
This group is in the mid life of full bloom and as a group are well bonded and pretty chilled. Toe and bare skin safe. They like the good life, quality bedding, fine food, milk, milk and more milk. They're very personalable, and even Princess Tsuki has grown out of chowing down (although she will still give a very hard chomp if pushed!). So chilled, but they can still get their bounce on when needed.

TSUKI
When we first got Tsuki she was a right little madam. A bossy jill who wants to get her own way, by using her teeth! and is intelligent to boot. She has a nasty streak and it took about a year before she stopped biting us - she's a lot calmer, but she acts like a little princess! I think she is a little nervous in character, possible either due to genetics or possibly the environment from where she was born. She took a lot taming and doesn't like any other ferrets outside her group.

She's sister to Hershey and they get on very well together. Out of a few that we saw at the breeder, she played a little calmer, although bouncy she wasn't completely nuts. She loves to chase and run through tubes, trying to outrun and outsmart Hershey.

At first she really wasn't people orientated but slowly she began taking more notice of us and coming for a little attention and treats. As she's grown into adulthood she has become easier to handle, but will still nip very hard if she doesn't want to be handled, she is a little more aloof and doesn't always want to play. Tony loves her lots and he especially wanted a silver ferret and they have a very special relationship - daddy's little girl. Tsuki lives with her brother, Hershey and Mojo.

HERSHEY
As soon as I was handed Hershey at the breeders, I wanted him. He was a big ball of soft fluff with a character to go with. I miss Bailey who was so cuddly, and I wanted another cuddly boy, which although he's big he isn't the cuddly sort. He grew enormous compared to our rescue ferrets in his first year, but has since slimmed down. There's not a mean bone in his body and all he wants is good food, see what's going on and to play. He's probably one of the most sensitive ferrets we've had.

He's not the brightest ferret...all braun with little brain. But that's fine with me. Right from the start he likes people and will follow you around and want to be picked up...but only to see what's going on elsewhere. He's a lovely silver chocolate sable colour with dark little feet and pink toes. Which I know all sable ferrets have, but I think is really cute. As he's grown into adulthood, he too has calmed down to the point where he positively horizontal. I thought Tsuki and Hershey could do with a pick-me-up friend and so we found Mojo. Mojo has made a great playmate for Hershey and Tsuki and really got them out from their shells.

MOJO
He's a complete NUTTER! but completely adorable and loveable. All he wants to do is play, play, play and bounce and there's not a mean bone in his body. We got him to keep Tsuki and Hershey company and didn't know whether those two would accept another ferret as Tsuki is quite aggressive and Hershey is a softy. When we got Mojo he was only a few weeks old, but even at that young age he showed them that he was more than a match for their antics. Soon enough he started growing and over took them in bounce and weight - he showed them whose boss (him!) and they all live very happily together. He's can be a little too rough for Tsuki to play with but has been the ideal panacea for Hershey - they all get on so well.

THE BEANIE GROUP
A bunch of complete nutters...never have we ever, and I say, ever, had such a nutty group!!! We've never had three beanie boys together either..is that the common denominator? Dumb, dumb and dumber??!!! Mitsy is only half albino so you can get some sense from her. Manic, nutty, fast, inquisitive, won't settle, can't litter train the buggers, can't nip train the buggers but, they are incredibly adorable and fun.

MITSY
Mitsy is a cutee - she's a heartbreaker. Cute as a button, pretty, playful, inquisitive and friendly. Mitsy and Harry are litter mates and we got them at about 6-8 weeks old. Like many jills, if there's mischief you know Mitsy's there. She likes being the only jill in the business and she keeps the beanies in order. She's got velcro paws that she will stick to you when you pick up any of the ferrets!

HARRY
Harry is a typical hob - as handsome as Mitsy is cute and pretty. Harry has grown into a large, stocky, muscular boy. One of the largest ferrets we've ever had - might be because he's not been surgically neutered. He, like his sister, are bright and always busy - saying that he's a solid chap and doesn't always want to play - sometimes he prefers just being or exploring or playing with his toys. But he always is up for a cuddle - even if it's only for nano second before getting his nose into something else.

MAXIMILLIAN (MAX)
When Bingo passed away, Harry (along with me) was distrought - they were pals of the best order and Harry looked up to Bingo like a father figure. So it was obvious that he needed new friends. We got Max first from the rescue centre - he's a medium sized albino hob but...he's completely and utterly crazy!!!! He literally whizzes all over the place, running and leaping back and forth. No attention span so litter traning is pretty poor, but he gets the group going at playtime (a bit too much)!

SAM
We got Sam a few weeks after Max from the same rescue centre. We tried Harry, Mitsy and Max with almost all the ferrets there and Mitsy made it clear that she didn't really want anyone else...but we did!! So as a last resort, we picked a little runty looking albino and took him home. And we're so glad we did. He's the softest, cutest, squidgest boy but he doesn't know that and he thinks he's Harry sized! He loves Mitsy and they play together great.
Yeah, I know the photos are all of Harry, but believe me, Beanie headshots are gonna look pretty similar! Check out their section for real photos of Sam and Max.

OUR OTHER FERRETS
We have had a few other ferrets and they've all had their own unique and loveable personalities, but they have passed away, their stories can be found in the Memorial section.

Unfortunately, when we first started keeping ferrets, we had a baptism of fire regarding their health. They were all rescue ferrets so it's difficult to know what their life and care was like - in many of the cases below I know it was appalling, so at least we gave them a new home where they had a lot of love, fun and care. Apart from Merlin, despite their assorted health problems they all lived to 7-8 years old.

WILLOW
Our lovely little jill who was the softest, sweetest girl you could hope to have. Our original ferret and longest lived at 9.5 years old.

MERLIN
Was a wonderful ferret who unfortunately died unexpectantly at 1.5 years old due to suspected meningitus and paralysis.

TILBURY
Was a very special ferret who was so 'human', but he suffered from IBS for his whole life ever since we took him in. His diet had to be carefully monitored.

BAILEY
Was very special to me - but he was a medical enigma and had a lot of treatment from the vet, even a spleenectomy. He had a mystery illness which was thought to be Toxoplasmosis. Eventually after curing that he was pts due to tumours in his chest.

CASPER
Was a special friend to Willow, Bingo and Tony and passed away due to chronic kidney failure. He also had adrenal disease was treated surgically for this.

BINGO
Such a special boy. He lived a large part of his early life on his own. He was found on the streets, some kids had brought him in to the RSPCA. He lived with us for a good six months of his life on his own with us which made him bond very closely to us. If he was in the right mood, if you stroked his shoulders and down his head he will stay in your lap resting.
