The Mithril Spike!
Trophy 2503
This League's first Major Tournament is
now over. The prestigious Mithril Spike! Trophy
(sponsored by Spike! Magazine) was won by the
highly-successful Ulthuan Athletic in a thrilling, not
to say controversial, Death Bowl final. The team have
since announced, as expected, that they consider
themselves too good to compete in minor tournaments and
will only play in Majors from now on.
The Mithril Spike! Trophy Open
Tournament coincides with the presentation of the
Player of the Year Award,
which this year was won by Lanfear of Ulthuan Athletic.
This exciting and highly-effective player has scored a
massive eighteen touchdowns in just three tournaments
and has accrued sixty Star Player Points.
The tournament was marred by the failure
of the Beastman Building Co ("You've tried the cowboys,
now try the Beastmen") to get the stadium finished in
time, with the result that rather less than a quarter of
a million fans were able to attend the game.
Nevertheless, this may have had a hidden benefit, in
that when a brawl broke out between fans of Athletic and
Black Poison in the final few minutes of the match, only
forty-four unfortunate fans were killed - casualties
could have been much worse if more people had turned up.
