Road Race

Race Report

Here are the results of the Compomotive Summer Road Race on 7th June 2009. Owing to torrential rain in the morning and standing water on narrow roads, the race was postponed by 30 minutes and reduced by 2 laps from the advertised 5 and a half laps (102 km) of the Cardington/Old Warden circuit. Understandably, only 28 riders decided to sign on, virtually all 2nd catters. However, in the end, whilst the roads remained damp, the race was run off in dry weather and a break of 5 developed on the penultimate lap, comprising James Fox (Team MK), Tim Carter (Team Virgin Active), Jim Moffatt (Sprit Racing Team), Gavin Rumbles (CC Luton) and Phil Hersey (Eagle RC). In the final lap, Phil Hersey was dropped on Hillfort hill, and the 4-man break continued to the line with James Fox clinching first from Jim Moffatt by a few seconds. The 4 had a lead of about a minute over the chasing bunch.

I would like to thank all the competitors who rode, and to those who took the time and effort to turn up but decided better of the conditions. I am pleased to report that I have again had nothing but praise from the riders regarding the way the event was run this year by the Icknield Road Club (you have no idea!), so thank you to all the marshals and officials who helped on the day to make it a smooth running event.

I have posted below the result down to 20th position, which is everyone that finished.

Event Organiser: Andrew Parrish (IRC)

My thanks to Jon Miles (Chief Commissaire) and
Matthew Carton (Assistant Chief Commissaire) and to the assistance of all the marshals and officials on the day - in particular to Alan Davies and Peter Holgate for signing on duties, Richard Noon and Barry Gilzean for driving lead cars, Tim Davies and Sam Gilzean for being radio operators, Muriel Holgate and Freda Lee for catering, Gordon Hart, Gerry Ashley, John Lee and Roy Porter for Judging, Maurice Burton as photographer, and not least Peter Tasker for organising the marshals and Peter Jones for putting out the signs and being First Aid and Service Vehicle, all at the same time.

Of course the event would not have been possible without the help of marshals; Dick and Jean Lyon, Lister Williams, Maurice Burton, Roy Porter, Peter Tasker, Keith Prime, Chris Collier-Woods, Steve Chapman, Rino Bit, Julie Marsden, Julie O'Brian, John Lee and Martin Brooks. Thank you.

If you have comments to improve the running of next year's event, please pass them on to Andy Parrish or Peter Tasker.

WELL DONE TO EVERYONE THAT RODE
