Here are the results of the Compomotive Summer Road Race on 7th June 2009. Owing to torrential rain in the morning and standing water on narrow roads, the race was postponed by 30 minutes and reduced by 2 laps from the advertised 5 and a half laps (102 km) of the Cardington/Old Warden circuit. Understandably, only 28 riders decided to sign on, virtually all 2nd catters. However, in the end, whilst the roads remained damp, the race was run off in dry weather and a break of 5 developed on the penultimate lap, comprising James Fox (Team MK), Tim Carter (Team Virgin Active), Jim Moffatt (Sprit Racing Team), Gavin Rumbles (CC Luton) and Phil Hersey (Eagle RC). In the final lap, Phil Hersey was dropped on Hillfort hill, and the 4-man break continued to the line with James Fox clinching first from Jim Moffatt by a few seconds. The 4 had a lead of about a minute over the chasing bunch.
I would like to thank all the competitors who rode, and to those who took the time and effort to turn up but decided better of the conditions. I am pleased to report that I have again had nothing but praise from the riders regarding the way the event was run this year by the Icknield Road Club (you have no idea!), so thank you to all the marshals and officials who helped on the day to make it a smooth running event.
I have posted below the result down to 20th position, which is everyone that finished.
