The Icknield Road Club promoted its first ever Open cyclo cross race in its 76 year history on Sunday 18th October.
Icknield High School in Luton was the venue for the four races which took place over a 3km course which included riding through the long jump pit, over giant man made grassed mounds and through rough scrubland between the trees.
Riders came from all over the country to compete with age groups from Under 10s to over 40s and with a good number of novices trying this growing branch of the sport for the first time.
The Club’s Adam Kemp and Alexi Edwards put in fine rides in the U10s to finish 2nd and 4th respectively and in the U14 Girls, Lauren Randall took 1st. Imre Bartal was an impressive 4th in the very competitive U16 Boys event and was selected to ride for the Central Region in the Area Championships in November.
UCI Commisaire Kelvin Hoy, praised the Icknield for an excellent course and organisation and looks forward to the same again next year.Richard Noon (26/10/09)
Tim Davies reports that in the Team Economic Energy 10 on Saturday 10th July on the E2/10 course near Newmarket in cloudy but light winds he recorded a time of 21:29 - a whole minute off his previous best (see pic below). "The fastest on the day was 19:18. Conditions looked poor but fortunately the stronger winds did not come through until the evening. The return 5 miles was great averaging over 30mph with a cross to tail wind. I was chasing Roger Porter from St Albans and was just catching him on the finish line. Neil Allonby took part, but I left before his result came in, I guess he's done a "23". There were quite a lot of "21s" and the fastest tandem recorded 18:55!

This weekend instead of 12hrs around Bedfordshire, I did 8:43:56 around the Alps in the Marmotte! The ride is an amazing experience, 108miles and 5000m of climbing taking in the Cols de Glandon, Telegraph, Galibier and the famous Alp d'Huez. There were 7000 starters. The Tour de France will go up the Alp next year too - so it will feel familiar. Galibier is awesome, snow along the roadside and views that go on forever.
We are immortalised on youtube with Ash Cox (BRCC). That's Tim eating a banana (ed).
