Focus on the 2002-2003 Club Year
The highlight of the year was undoubtedly the Club's 70th Anniversary Dinner held at the Thistle Hotel, Bridge street, Luton, with 230 attending, mainly due to the hard work of Kathy Morgan and to many months work by John Lee in tracing former members. The club was very pleased to welcome Eurosport cycling commentator, David Duffield, as its Guest speaker for the night, who amused us all with his various annecdotes of cycling life both past and present.
Once again Steve Hunt performed at a very high level throughout the season, breaking club overall records at 15 ml and 30 ml. Dave Wright won the Club Championship beating 22 mph, Roger Queen was the VTTA London Group Champion. On the road racing scene the best performances were Simon Thomson and Mat Jenkins.
Our thanks go to Bill Strange, Newsletter editor, for producing some excellent Newsletters during the year.
Other social events included a BBQ, again hosted by Pete and Murial Holgate in their garden that was very successful. Throughout the yaer Paul Abraham organised several YHA weekends which are popular and much enjoyed. Keith Potter organised a very successful Christmas Lunch and our final celebration was the Christmas Party at the clubroom organised by Murial.
