Club runs are as diverse as the members of the club. We have club runs to
suit all abilities, from the new cyclist turning their wheels for the first time to racy types
who need 'to get the miles in'. Each run has a leader who chooses the route and controls the
pace, working on the principle that 'the run is as fast as the slowest rider'. The distances
range from 30-40 miles with many stops through to 60-80 miles without stopping. The starting
points are in Barton-le-Clay
(B/L), outside the library or Houghton
Regis (H/R) in front of the church. The meeting time varies dependent on the group
and time of year. 9:00 am is the earliest start time and 9:30 pm the latest. As these times
are the departure times, riders should aim to be at the meeting point 10-15 minutes before.
Helmets aren't compulsory but are a sensible precaution as is carrying spare innertubes or
puncture repair equipment and a waterproof top just in case. A few pounds in spare cash is
also advised for the cafe stop and a mobile phone may also be handy.

There are unofficial runs that take place on Saturdays. As these are unofficial they are not subject to some of the unspoken rules of the Sunday run. The pace is often faster, stops are optional as is waiting for stragglers. It would be prudent to join the Sunday runs first to gauge your ability against the 'Saturday crew' who ride on the Sunday runs. Start points for the Saturday runs are variable, depending on who is turning up and where the majority live. Routes are interesting... often decided on the fly, eg: venturing north into uncharted lanes in deepest Bucks and Northants! Commonly used start points are as follows:
RAB @ jctn of Hockliffe St. and Leston Rd, Leighton Buzzard @ 9.30. Tea stop at either Winslow or Swanbourne. |
|
Jctn of Bedford St. and Leighton St. Woburn @ 9.30. Tea stop at either Winslow or Swanbourne. |
Please be sure to contact Dick Lyon or the Runs Coordinator, Alan Davies, to check if a Saturday run is happening!
