As many of you will hopefully be aware, the club will be running a cyclocross event at Icknield High School in Luton on the 8th February 2009. This event will be part of a new Central region cross league, running over the winter months. As you will be able to see from the list below, there are a number of events close to the area so if you are interested in giving cross a go this year then you don't have to travel too far. Richard Noon and I will be competing in some of the events along with a number of the youth riders, so it would be good if we could get a few more from the club giving it a go.
Cross is a great way of keeping fitness over the winter and developing bike handling skills. You do not need a cross bike as you can use mountain bikes. There are plans to run coaching sessions for youth and novice riders at the venues of the central league events on the Saturdays before the races. Why not give it a go. For more details contact Richard Noon or Barry Gilzean.

Open Cyclo-Cross to be promoted by the Club at Icknield High School Luton Sunday Febuary 8th 2009.
The club is hoping this will be an occasion when some good publicity for the Club should be forthcoming. There will be quite a lot of helpers needed for this event, but if you are only going to spectate then we still want to see you, complete with your Icknield top. This should be a good opportunity for a Club photograph. So please put this in your 2009 diary now.

Redborne Upper School, a Specialist Sports College just 3 miles from the Icknield Road Club HQ is hosting a summer Get Back Into Open Activity Day on 17th May 2008.
The activity day will be running from 10.00am - 12.00 noon. The day is being run through the 'Get Back Into' campaign, a regional campaign to get adults and young people back into playing sport and being physically active.
The Club has been asked if we would like to have a "stand" at the event or hold some form of activity e.g. turbo riding or an off-road course.
This is a great opportunity for us to show the Club to local people who have an interest in sport and who might like to try cycling with the Icknield.
We will need volunteers who are happy to chat to visitors about cycling and the Club. Please could you let one of the Committee know if you can help (before they ask you!).

The Club has been asked about setting up a mountain bike section using local bridleways and specific sites such as Chicksands Woods near Shefford, Beds. We are interested to find out if there are enough people interested to start a MTB section, where you would like to ride, how often etc. Please contact the Club Secretary, Richard Noon if you are interested.
