We are a cycling club based in Silsoe, Bedfordshire, of about a hundred members. The club is involved in time trialling, cyclo-cross, road and track racing, social activities, youth hostelling weekends and other events. We provide on and off-road activities under the supervision of experienced cyclists and qualified coaches and work with local schools to deliver Go-Ride cycling activities following the British Cycling plan. If you want to ride with an experienced yet sociable band of riders, who will still wait for you if you puncture, then ride with the Icknield. Come along to one of our Tuesday evening club nights or turn up at a club run to find out more.
The Club has now joined the British Triathlon Federation, so you can now compete in Triathlons as a member of Icknield Road Club.

Below is a communication from Richard Bland of Hitchin Nomads. Please contact Murial or Peter Holgate if interested as they would like to get an Icknield table together at the dinner.
"I'm writing with details of our dinner dance to be held on Saturday 6th February at Northill Village Hall. I understand it's 6.30 for 7.30 dinner with prize giving and a raffle during the evening! There will be live music from "The Strayhorns" www.strayhorns.co.uk and tickets are around £22.50 per head. It would be great if you could gather an Icknield table together for the usual banter which always enlivens the proceedings and adds a touch of humour to the proceedings. If you could let us know as soon as possible if you would like to attend, as we are restricted to maximum 80 in the hall, that would certainly assist our Social Secretary with his organisation and so on."

There will almost certainly be a proposal to increase the subs at the AGM. So pay before the AGM to avoid the increase.
With the large influx of new members, this year, 33 to be precise, the club could do with at least another couple of qualified coaches.
There is still 100% funding available to cover the costs of BC coaching courses, or other courses, including for officials... read more
Please note the change of date for the AGM from 26th January to 2nd February 2010.
Boxing Day saw the 40th Annual Vintage Bicycle Time Trial around the country lanes of Old Warden area.

Thirty five riders took part on a mix of bicycles old and new; the oldest one dating from 1897 which completed the 8 mile course in 44 minutes. There were also several pre 2nd WW machines including a 1936 James ridden by the Icknield’s Richard Noon. The fastest overall time was 21 minutes on a modern bike.
There were 6 Icknield Road Club members taking part and many more in support. Fastest of the Club riders was Junior Imre Bartal with 24mins 28 secs. Other times were: Ray Morgan 26-39, Alan Kemp 27-55, Richard Noon 28-25, Peter Jones 30-56 and Maurice Burton 32-13.Richard Noon 27/12/09
The Icknield Road Club is now affiliated to the British Triathlon Federation. There only about 10 Cycling clubs affilated to BTF.
So IRC members can now compete in Triathlons with their club as Icknield Road Club. I believe one normally gets a small reduction in entry fee when entered as a member of an affiliated club.

This news was just received from Eric Walthall yesterday, friend of the late Gareth Evans. Keep up the good work.
"I finally got back into competition this weekend. I rode in the Kansas City Cyclocross Series, Veterans Cross Category 4 Mens race. Icknield didn't do too well. 43rd out of 49 riders. Very tough, first time on the cross bike. I think I averaged about 95% of my max HR for 38 minutes."
