Andy Savage - Time lapse & Stop motion capture films. Hope you enjoy them.

Welcome to my Time-Lapse and stop motion video page. I hope that you enjoy watching some of the films and animations I have created here.
If you have created any animations perhaps you might like to let me know, I might even put a link on this page to your site.
I have always been a big fan of animated characters such as the ones created by Aardman animations. The Creature Comforts characters are some of the best I have seen. Check out their site HERE.

If you have broadband then you may also like to see my timelapse videos on my other website on the page HERE.

Also I have a good collection of stop motion and time-lapse videos on youtube.

HOW TO CREATE FILMS LIKE THESE YOURSELF

The films on this page basically consist of a series of images played in a sequence at about 20 frames each second.
The images that are being played back at this rate were not recorded at 20 frames per second, thus this means that you have the ability to make time flow faster than normal or make things happen that would not normally.

For instance the Snail movie shows a normal garden snail, but it is traveling very fast across the ground, this is because the frames were recorded once every 6 seconds. When played back at 20 frames a seconds it speeds up time.

These time differences between recoding and playback show up best on things that we all know take a long time to occur. Watch the Quick candles movie and you will see what I mean. 6 hours compressed into just 20 seconds !

Stop motion capture is like time-lapse, but YOU decide when to take the frame. This allows you to animate items by moving them a bit at a time then grabbing another frame. Because I use a PC to do this, You do not have to allow for the 24 frames per second rate that film animators use. This is because the last image displayed remains on screen until it is replaced with a new one. Where as on TV or at a cinema there must be 24 FPS to keep the Persistence of vision satisfied.

Please take a look at my films and see what you think of them.
Happy viewing !

Software used to create these movies :
For capturing I used Time Lapse Still Image Capture by Matt.T Donegan. This great program used to be available on the Hauppauge website but they seemed to have removed it and I wan not able to contact the author.

Also I use the Video capture element of Ulead MediaStudio Pro v6

For editing the video I use Jasc Animation Shop and Adobe Premiere.

Software used to encode these movies for this page :
Cinax Media Pallette V2.0, Using ASF MPEG4 mode.

Hardware used to create these movies :
WinTv PCI and Dazzle Digital Video Creator USB.

MY FILMS - TO DOWNLOAD AND WATCH

The videos in this section are all encoded in MPEG4 format.

If you are running Windows 98 and have Media Player V6.4 then it will automatically update your player with the MPEG4 codec as soon as you try and play any of my videos.
If you are already running Media Player V7 or greater then you do not need to update your system.
