Before I bought the Spyder I was going to build this X21 Audi TT lookalike. Breif story goes:

Spoke to Bob from Paul Banham conversions, very impressed, really knew what he was talking about, very helpful.

Booked a time to go to the factory and see the car. When we got there the workshop was a mess, the car so tucked away we couldn't even open the doors to sit in it and the attitude towards SVA wasconfusing to say the least.

Suitably unimpressed with the treatment Della and I recieved I vowed never to buy direct from PB. The next project was to be one abandoned by somebody who had already had the hassle of dealing with the factory and getting all the parts etc. First to come up was the Spyder so I built that.

Now that's done and I have finished another for a friend it's time for a fresh challenge. By getting findit.co.uk to notify me of any projects that come up for sale I was spoilt for choice. Anything from brand new Dooster kits to a Sylva Stylus in need of cosmetic finishing. Then something came up I could not refuse, this X21. The cutting and welding in of the bracing had already been done and it came with the lighting kit (rear light covers seen balanced in in the pictures)and a hard top.

First impressions are good. It's only a 1.1 engine, but it's a '96 car and the running gear looks in good condition. I tried to start it but no fuel is getting through so that's the first thing to sort out..

Watch this space for further developments..................

Now I have been cuting the bodyshell to try and make it fit. These are the first pictures of the door area and rear arch. Will it ever fit?

More pictures taken while wondering if I can user the metro steel inner door with it's feeble but better than nothing side impact protection. Bloody cold it is too outside 22/12/2003. Still the evenings start getting lighter now....

The bottom of the door looks a completely different shape. The moulding on the inside of the GRP door is exactly the same shape so would fit exactly as well (badly?)

The quality of the GRP around the rear lights is appaling. Obviously it's from where the mould has been added to after light redesign from X99

The lamp shell hits this chassis member....

Lights are only rested in but they do look the part. Bugger to get in from the front and I have to figure out som fixing method. Not before I wire them up and get a rough idea of aim though.
