Pacal - AJM's Rules =================== This set of rules is not based on the German rules set at all! It is a much clearer version of my interpretation and clarification of a set of translated rules I found on the web. Also for ease of play I have abandoned the pyramid setup with strange ordering of cards! I am certain that this is not the same as the real Pacal rules, but I like it! Game Material ------------- 50 cards (Numbered 1-50) 2 pawn 1 score board Preparation ----------- * Place the score board between the two players. Each player takes a pawn and places it on the biggest circle at their end of the board. The pawn is advanced towards the centre when a round is won. * The deck is shuffled and 10 cards are dealt face down in a row to each player. * From the remaining cards each player is dealt 15 cards which are taken into each player's hand. Playing the Game ---------------- * The game is played in rounds. In each round the players attempt to create an increasing sequence of numbers with the lowest on the left and the highest on the right. The cards will be placed on top of the face down cards dealt out in a line initially. * The first player to win 3 rounds wins the game - this is marked using the pawns on the score board. * To decide who will start each player reveals the face down card on the right end of their line. Whoever has the higher value starts. These cards are then placed face down again. * The star player takes two cards from their hand and places them face up on the table. * The other player chooses one of these two cards and plays it onto one of their face down cards according to the placement rules below. * The player who revealed the two cards then takes the remaining card and plays it onto one of their face down slots according to the placement rules. * The other player then takes a turn and reveals two cards for the first player to choose from etc. Revealing and choosing goes back and forth until the round is over. Building Rules -------------- * The cards must always be placed so that the highest value is at the rightmost end of the line, and the lowest at the leftmost end. All the other cards must be ordered lowest to highest from left to right. * Once a card has been laid it cannot be moved. * Each face down card can be covered once only, and no face up card can be covered. End of a Round -------------- * As soon as the players legally finish their line of 10 cards the round ends. In this case the player who has the greatest difference between their lowest and highest cards wins. If this is equal compare the difference between the 2nd highest and 2nd lowest cards and so on until a winner is determined. * However, if at any point a player cannot legally play the card they have taken then that player immediately loses the round. Note that the player who selects from a choice of two cards has to play before the player who takes the remaining card. * It is not allowed to offer 2 cards which neither player can play, but it is allowed to offer 2 cards which your opponent cannot play, but one of which you can play - this is a winning move! * If a player can only offer two cards which neither player can play then the offering player loses the round. * The winner of a round advances their pawn annd a new round is started, with the entire deck being reshuffled first. End of the Game --------------- * First player to win 3 rounds wins the game. Solo Pacal ---------- * Shuffle all the cards. * Deal out a line of 10 face down cards as before * The remaining 40 cards are all placed in a face-down deck. * Take two cards from the top and choose one card to play and one to discard. Use the same building rules as before. * You win if you manage to build a complete line.
