TR6 Chassis Restoration

The chassis, although straight and free from accident damage, had a lot of rust damage. The picture below shows before and after photos of the chassis section where the rear trailing arm mounting brackets are located. This was mainly caused by a U-shaped sheet metal patch being welded around the section by the DPO (dreaded previous owner!) - probably to get it through a MOT test. Unfortunately this just trapped more moisture which rusted the box section underneath it. The whole section had to be cut out, a new section fabricated and then welded in. The rearmost section of the chassis arms also needed similar treatment. The pictures can also been seen separately here.

The right-hand differential mountings had broken away from the rear spring bridge and had also, unfortunately, suffered from badly welded repairs. The whole bridge section was removed and a better second-hand one from CTM Engineering welded in its place. However, this replacement still needed some repairs to the differential mounts.

After the repairs were completed to the chassis, all the suspension components and drivetrain assemblies were shot-blasted and then sprayed with etch-primer and black enamel. These pictures show some of the suspension parts after painting (mainly from the front suspension) and the painted chassis.
