TR6 Bodyshell Restoration

The TR6 bodywork showed rust in all the usual places. The sills were non-existent behind the front wings, as shown in the first picture, and most of the rear deck, rear inner wing and valances were beyond repair. There were quite a few pieces of newspaper and areas of filler around the rear deck, all sprayed over with shiny red paint! All four inner and three outer wings needed replacing, along with the floors and sills, the boot lid and the door skins. One front wing and the front valance were reusable as they had been replaced shortly before I bought the car.

The picture below left shows front of the bodyshell during the fitting up of an original front inner wing (bought from Revington TR) - I had lots of difficulty in getting any pattern ones to fit! The next picture shows the front bulkhead assembly after most of the welding had been completed. This was the largest part left of the original bodyshell!

This diagram shows how little is remaining of the original bodyshell - all the red shaded panels were eventually replaced!

Below left is the rear of the bodyshell prior to fitting the rear deck panels - the panels are held together with self-tapping screws at this stage. The other picture shows the bodyshell during final stages of outer panel fitting. This was a very time consuming part of bodyshell rebuild, with virtually all of the panels being fitted and removed many times. After acceptable panel alignment and gaps had been achieved, the bodyshell was welded up and sprayed with etch-primer.
