Pied Wagtail

Motacilla alba yarrellii 18.5cm

I was considering putting a picture of a car park as the habitat shot for the Pied Wagtail, as I seem to see Pied Wagtails almost as a matter of course where a car park has an adjacent green space or picnic area.

The featured bird was photographed on a day trip to Spurn Head near Hull, a popular location for observing the Spring and Autumn migration.

These small birds seem to be on the move all the time, wagging their tail and bobbing their head as they comb the ground for insects, occasionally running quickly to a new location before resuming their search for food.
