House Sparrow

Passer domesticus 14.5cm

The feature photograph was taken in the back garden of my terrace home in Stafford.

The other images are also taken in my back garden, and although reportedly in decline over the last few years, we've always had a healthy population in our garden, probably due to the efforts of my wife to keep the birdfeeders full 365 days a year.

As I write this (in late spring 2002), our garden, or more precisely the main feeder tree, is full of House Sparrows, most of which appear to be young. The adults are working flat out to feed the youngest whilst others are already getting the hang of the free food dispensors.
