Greenfinch

Carduelis chloris 14.5cm

Greenfinches are one of our commonest finches and are regular visitors to garden feeders and bird tables.

They are resident in the UK and frequent many different habitats, including open mixed woodland, copses, parks, gardens and roadside verges.

The juvenile shown here exhibits mottled markings on the breast that will be lost as it matures.

All but the shot of the male/female pair on the wire were taken from the gazebo hide at Belvide Reservoir, where a feeding station has been set up that attracts a number of different species including Greater Spotted Woodpecker.
