Fallow Deer

Dama dama

In contrast to park deer that are often easy to obseve at close quaters, the deer population on Cannock Chase are wild and avoid close contact with humans. The deer have been a feature of the Chase for hundreds of years.

Fallow deer are the most common species in Britain. The population on Cannock Chase numbers several hundred and the herd is managed by selective culling, although many deer are killed each year in traffic accidents.
