Habitat

Bank Vole

Clethrionomys glareolus

Bank Voles are fairly common residents of deciduous woodland, where they feed on nuts, seeds, leaves, fungi and small invertebrates.

This little chap popped up in front of my wife Helen, while she was sitting beside a small pool near Belvide Reservoir looking for Spotted Flycatchers. She put down a little of the seed that she was carrying in her pocket and made an immediate friend.

With most pictures I struggle to get close enough to the subject, with this little chap I had to move back to get the minimum focus distance for the camera. Helen was actually sitting on an upturned boat about 2 feet away while these pictures were being taken.
