AND PREVIOUSLY... 'Alice ~ The Musical' Our show 'Alice ~ The Musical' took place at The Lighthouse on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd February 2008. The performances all went extremely well and the whole production was a tremendous success. The rehearsals, as always did their job and provided a wealth of knowledge to assist everyone during the actual performances, especially with the numerous quick changes that had to occur in the wings! I am very proud of all the students who performed with such confidence and talent to make our show such a wonderful success. Thank you again to everyone for all your efforts in making the whole thing run as smoothly as it did. I was very pleased to be able to send a cheque for £600, to the local branch of the NSPCC, being the total raised from our show this year. Videos/DVD’s & Photographs Our official Photograph albums are available during lesson times at The Beaufort Community Centre. If you have not yet seen the photo's please ask. We are very pleased with the quality of the prints again this year and they truly show the spectacular array of colours that filled the stage.
Last year I invited Yolanda Vincent, a past student of our school, to hold a Summer School during the last week of August, culminating in a performance to friends and family on the Saturday morning. Yolanda had just successfully completed her degree in Ballet Education at The Royal Academy of Dance in London. The week ran as follows: Tuesday 26th August 2008: Age 8 – 18 years ~ Musical Moments ~ Taking extracts from many famous musicals the day will compose of learning routines from the shows and adding your very own individuality to result in a unique and special performance. Wednesday 27th August 2008: Age 8 – 18 years ~ Jazz Tap ~ New York City Jazz meets Traditional Tap steps to conjure up a show stopping routine developed especially for you to learn and perfect. Wednesday 27th August 2008: Age 5 – 7 years ~ Disney Workshop ~ For the slightly younger student, an exciting journey through an enchanted land where wishes and dreams become reality and all your imaginations conspire to make magical moments of performance Thursday 28th August 2008: Age 8 – 18 years ~ Urban Fusion ~ Funky Urban styles going wild with Commercial Hip Hop to all the latest dance sounds. If it’s in your head here’s the chance to let it out through your feet and add your own choreography to all you’ve seen the stars perform. Friday 29th August 2008: Age 8 – 18 years ~ Contemporary ~ Putting together your body’s natural flow of movement and exploring what happens when you mix that with earthy grounded styles. Creating a completely new and unique routine with all the latest choreographic devices. Friday 29th August 2008: Age 5 – 7 years ~ Disney Workshop ~ Another chance for young minds to explore all the stories and lands they’ve read and heard about where they get the chance to be those wonderful characters dancing out their dreams. Saturday 30th August 2008: Rehearsals & Performance ~ At last your chance to show all your family and friends all the amazing routines you’ve put together throughout the classes – and they get to watch for free! This was a wonderful and exciting opportunity for the children to experience new and different dance and combine it with the knowledge they have gained so far. It was also an excellent chance for the children to once again perform in front of an audience, and for you all to share with them the joy of dance. FESTIVALS Some of our students once again entered the Christchurch And District Arts Festival where we won the Youth Dance Section with our 'Summer Collection' dance. Winning this category meant we went on to perform at The Regent Centre, Christchurch on Sunday 4th November 2007. It is with much pride I can announce that we came first in The Dance Competition and were presented with the The Townend Trophy for Dance.
