Filton left with one Concorde as “forgotten” Delta Golf (202) heads to new home at Brooklands Museum, Weybridge ...

Filton has finally said goodbye to its second and, until relatively recently, lesser known Concorde as the fuselage of 202 was transported to its new home at the Brooklands Museum at Weybridge, Surrey

Concorde 202 (G-BBDG or “Delta Golf”) has been gradually dismantled into managable pieces over recent months. The wings, nose and tail had already arrived at Brooklands Museum leaving just the fuselage to be moved.

Concorde 202 holds up the traffic as she is carefully pushed out of Filton Airfield

Traffic on both sides of the A38 trunk road alongside Filton airfield near Bristol was halted (picture above) whilst the low loader was pushed out of the airfield crash gate at around 11 am on Saturday 5th June 2004. Because of the rig’s great length it was necessary for the rear of the fuselage to overhang the southbound carriageway to allow the tractor unit and trailer to negotiate the rather narrow entrance (arrowed in picture above).

Concorde 202 then headed north with a police escort as she straddled both lanes of the A38 carriageway (above and below), until she reached the M4 motorway, heading east toward London.

A stop was made on the hard shoulder at Tormarton where Concorde is seen leaving the motorway (above). This image gives an interesting view of the wing root construction. It should be noted that Concorde is actually travelling tail first.

“202 on the Move” model...

I had a very interesting request through my Guest Book by model enthusiast Andy McCabe. He was requesting images of 202 from various angles on its transporter to help detail a model he was building of the move to Brooklands - these I was able and pleased to provide. I am very pleased that he has allowed me to reproduce some photos of his work in progress so far....

I understand from Andy that the tractor unit uses components from the Herpa model range, which, I presume means that the model is to Continental HO or 1:87 scale. The trailer and fuselage are completely scratchbuilt. I think you’ll agree that this is a pretty convincing model and I look forward to receiving photos of the finished item.

In the meantime here’s a photo of the other end...

...even the detail inside the fuselage has been captured! An excellent piece of work!

Having recently invested in a digital camera I thought I would try using the movie option!
