Why you should join us is another matter, though you could say that if you've read this far into our site, the chances are you're already at least half convinced you'd really like to join us anyway.
On the other hand, particularly those of you who don't live in Europe, and with the web being worldwide that's probably most of you, may wonder why you should bother to join a European based space political organization?
Apart from your membership giving us moral support, and in the long run financial support as well, if we were nothing but a European space politics society you'd be right to wonder why you should join. The whole point of the Space Settlers' Society however, is that we are not just a space politics society. We do the space politics as a means to our main end, which is the settlement of space by humanity, and if at all possible, as a part of this, by specifically that part of humanity which goes to make up our membership.
Obviously there can be no guarantees, at least not other than that we will do our best. The chances are that even if we do succeed, it will be our future membership rather than those in our present one, who go up to settle space. Still, the more of you who do join and the sooner you do, the more chance that it really may be that at least some of our present membership really will take part in space settlement.
Way back we did a calculation which indicated that if we could recruit
60,000 members staying with us for some years and paying reasonable subscriptions,
by using this income adroitly, we could fund the whole initial project ourselves.
A brief summary of this is included in the paper "Project Mayflower II" (See
"Space Settlers' Long Term Plan & Other Stories". If you're still not
convinced you ought to join us, drop me an e-mail and I'll send you
