Mondays shock defeat by Prestbury FC does not mean that Poynton cannot take second place in the League table, we have a game in hand with Delamere Rangers which if we win would give us the same number of points as Prestbury, but our superior goal difference would mean that we would take runners up position behind Great Moor
There have been a number of recent changes in the running of our team which will take place after this season has finished, this has been done in order to lighten Cammy’s workload, having done a sterling job over recent years, it is only fair that his workload be shared out in order for him get on with managing the team. All the lads parents have been e-mailed with who is doing what and all Ian asks is that full support be given to the people who have taken over key roles especially Phil Perry who has taken over as Secretary. ( Well done Phil )
Also mentioned at the meeting last Sunday was the fact that this website was created for the players and their families in order for them to keep up to date with whats going on in the team, It would be nice to have a little more input from both players and parents to make the site a little more interesting and also to let me know whether its worth carrying on with

After Sundays local derby we have invited Bollington back to the Sports club for food 12.30pm onwards please make the effort to support the team.
This years Inter League trials will be held on the 14th October, players that were selected last year are automatically entered for this years trials
Each club is then asked to put two players forward, Poynton have selected Sam Wadsworth with one place remaining,this place will be drawn from lots on Sunday due to the high standard of players we have to offer, if you do not want your child to be entered into the draw please inform me before Sunday

The team would like to say congratulations and farewell to Barney Makin who has just signed a two year contract with Macclefield Town Academy. Yesterday evening Barney played his last game with his old team mates and scored the final goal of the match which pulled the Poynton team from the jaws of defeat to a satisfying draw against some giant lads on the Poynton Vipers under 14s team. Well done Barney your mischievous grin will be missed by all.

Tuesdays friendly against Poynton Vipers under 14s team resulted in a 3 - 3 draw, the under 13s team ended the first half two goals up after a closely fought battle where their youth and enthusiasm took the game to the older lads and as a result took the lead. The size difference of some of the Vipers players did not seem to bother the younger team and they
showed their lack of respect by skillfully playing the ball around the park.
I think a half time team chat from Nick Warner focused the older lads minds on a possible embarrassing defeat to the hands of the young whippersnappers and as a result they came out with the sole intention to even the score. The scoreline was eventually drawn level with two nice goals from the Vipers forwards, followed shortly after with a lead taking third goal much to the horror of the Poynton parents. However the under 13s didn’t give up and several good chances at goal were a warning of a determined comeback, with about ten minutes of the game to play a long ball was played over everyone’s heads and received by Barney Makin who quickly brought the game back level at 3 - 3.
Cammys team had several more good shots at goal which should have put us back in the lead but lady luck was not with us and the game ended a draw. Well played lads you all did yourselves proud,keep on playing like you are doing and we will hopefully better last years league position.

Sunday 2nd September Poynton beat Cheadle Heath Nomads 5-1 in a pre season friendly,the Poynton team were down ten men due to various commitments which prevented a full turnout,but Cheadle Heath kindly let us borrow one of their players and to the lads credit he played with total commitment to the Poynton side and even scored against his own team

We are booked to play in the Great Moor Tournament which will probably take place on Sunday 2nd of September but the exact date is not yet known so please keep an eye on this page for an update. The Tournament is 15 minutes a game rather than the 7 minutes a game we played at our Umbro Tournament in June.
This season there will be a slight change to the amount of time a game lasts for, we will now play 35 minutes for each half of the game rather than 30 minutes as in the last couple of seasons.
Now is the time for players to start thinking about doing some training in readiness for the new season, not playing competitive football for a few months takes its toll and fitness levels will fall, Cammy has pointed out that this season commitment, attitude and fitness will determine whether a player starts in the first eleven or warms the bench ! so in view of that it might be wise to start some sort of fitness regime in readiness for the new season.

During the recent registration evening we signed up most of our players from last season as well as the new lads, but unfortunately we have lost one of our goalies, Hodge who has been with us from the start has moved on to pastures new, he along with Matt Nylan who moved to Richmond Rovers just before the end of last season played an important part of Poynton JFC and will be missed by everyone. I wish them every success with their new team and would like to thank them both for their commitment over the years. Well done to the lads on reaching the final at the Umbro tournament last Saturday,the squad had to be split into two teams in order to play the six a side games,each and every squad member played superbly in their respective teams and were a credit to the club in both attitude and ability.
This year we have signed four new players, Ryan Humez, Rob Potter, Ryan Paisley and Sam Wadsworth, they have already settled well into the squad and look very competent players.
I have added a few new photos to the Gallery and Team Photo pages, I have also added the new team members photos and profiles to the Meet the Team page unfortunately I messed up with the settings on my digital camera and the ASA settings were too high for the cloudy day making the photos look grainy and not up to my usual excellent professional quality photographs you are accustomed to (Cough )
I will re do the new lads photos in due course as some of them seem to have grey hair, that only comes later when Cammy’s had a bad day ! (LOL only joking Ian !)
