Poynton A v Bollington United
Date: 8th October 2007. Poynton v Bollington . Report: Phil Perry
Poynton A team welcomed Bollington to Deva fields on a warm sunny morning ,it looked like summer had finally arrived! The pitch with a thick covering of dew coated grass looked idyllic .The visitors won the toss and elected to play towards the railway end. From kick off both teams became involved in a game of Ariel ping pong, but soon settled down
First attempt on goal went to Bollington and both sides continued to run well passing fluidly on the tricky surface. However. Poynton took advantage of some good football on the right Hulme placing a beautiful ball into space for a intelligent running Potter who put the ball away for his first of the game 1 . 0.
Restarting the game Poynton’s Simpson made some good tackles, again making him a solid force in the centre of the park. Paisley showing his class stepping over the ball losing his opponent relentlessly on the flanks and making some telling passes. The partnership of Campbell and Kemp getting better each week is a lesson to all full backs, they both made their presence felt in a number of clearances against a bigger Bollington side and Poynton’s second goal came again from Potter from a pass by Perry 2 . 0
At this point the competition was closer than the score suggested, Bollington made some good breaks into the Poynton half hitting the corner post on one occasion. Wadsworth again did what was required keeping any threat from the visitors under control. Kelly back from illness provided some good balls to the forwards and played some good intelligent football. The now rampaging Potter continued to plague the Bollington backs and provided Captain Simpson with a chance on goal and with the Captain not disappointing it was 3 . 0 to Poynton.
Poynton playing the ball on the ground were again impressive with Tweedy and Bell working well are a power beyond their size matching their bigger opponents with their strength and commitment. The first half came to an end Poynton succeeding in securing another good first half performance.
Poynton kicked off the second half and it was soon obvious that both sides were lacking concentration after the break. Martin came on as sub and marked up well getting in some good tackles. Bollington took advantage of a slow starting Poynton and pulled one backwhich came from Bollington’s Drummond: it was 3 . 1.
Paisley soon after this made an excellent headed clearance from a Bollington corner but the boys composed themselves and Perry passed to Potter in the area Potter obliging with his third, a hat trick for the new signing. 4 . 1 to Poynton. Poynton had a number of notable attempts on goal from Perry, Potter and Paisley, the tide had turned against the visitors.
The football was at times enjoyable to watch Hulme, Campbell, Kemp. Bell , Tweedy and Martin all playing very well passing the ball fluidly, quickly and precisely .There were further attempts on goal by Poynton players Paisley, Potter and Perry of varying levels of skill. The game continued with the boys playing comfortably as a unit with Bollington looking deflated . Potter continued to run down every ball and provided Paisley with a pass, Paisley putting away a well deserved goal a just reward for his efforts throughout the season so far the boys were 5 - 1 up. Poynton had recovered their concentration completely, and continued to put in a very good performance. The game was put out of the visitors reach by a goal by Bell, 6 . 1 to Poynton for the second time in two weeks. The game ended at 6 . 1 to Poynton .
