The boy’s welcomed the newly promoted Panthers to Deva fields. The pitch was wet and slippy from light rain prior to kick off. The visitors won the toss, and chose to play towards the railway end. Both sides, keen to get off to a good start on the greasy surface and intent on gaining supremacy in mid field.
However, Poynton went ahead in the 8th minute with a shot from Paisly from a free kick by Potter rewarded for a foul on Simpson  1. 0.

The Panthers restarted the first half and tried to put the pressure on Poynton, but the boy’s went ahead again to a well taken volley from Perry to make it 2 .0.
The back four Martin, Cambell, Kemp and Tweedy- again playing well against a quick passing Prestbury side. Kelly, showing great composure and insight, and continualy played intelligent through balls to the attackers.

Panthers succeeded in striking the post twice, but it was obvious Wadswoth had them both covered. Ryan, Bell, Simpson and Tweedy exhibited some good passing. Humez playing his second league game- was influential also.
In the thirty third minute, Paisly got his second goal and Poynton’s third came from a well placed Potter corner. First half ended with the boys three up.

The Panthers came out for the second half, refused to give in and the boys were, again, under pressure from a rejuvenated Panthers side. But, in the face of adversity, Wadswoth continued to command his area well, and the visitors pulled one back from a corner - a reward  for a good period of pressure by the Panthers. Poynton restarted but couldn’t contain the free running visitors, whom soon pulled back another from an unstoppable header. It was 3. 2.

The game continued but Poynton had lost the momentum they initially displayed in the first half, and couldn’t break through for another goal.  The second half progressed, and while both sides contested for supremacy, the Referee allowed a questionable equaliser and memories of the 1966 World Cup final came flooding back. The match ended three all, in the fading evening light. A tale, very much of two halfs.
