Poynton A V Delamere Rangers .
Poynton “A” welcomed Delamere Rangers to Deva today, the conditions were bright but unpredictable with a swirling wind. Poynton won the toss and elected to play towards the Chester Road end, this was always going to be an exciting game with 3rd playing 2nd, the boy’s with their eyes on the league title.
The boys kicked off and within and the first five minutes Wadsworth had to make a save coming out for a dangerous 50/50 through ball. Paisley narrowly missed getting Poyntons first putting the ball over the bar. Delemere were finding it difficult to get through the Poynton mid field and defence Martin and Hulme combining well on the flanks. Tweedy, McLaren, Simpson, then Campbell Kemp and Hulme fighting for every ball, all tackling hard but fair.
Perry then Paisley were next to narrowly miss, then Kelly! was this going to be a rerun of last week’s High Lane game ? Poynton were starting to command good spells of possesion, and Wadsworth was cleaning up anything coming his way. Then against the run of play Delamere went one up, but the boys were quick to recover. Perry shooting on the turn from a lovely through ball delivered by Paisley brought Poynton level 1-1
Perry then had a shot deflected wide, Kelly put one narrowly over the bar.Campbell continued to make decisive challenges as well as Martin Simpson Tweedy Hulme and Mclaran.
But again Delemere went ahead it was 1-2 to the visitors. But to the boys credit they were straight back into the game, winning a corner kick. Potter placed it in well, and Captain Simpson whalloped the ball into the back of the Rangers net bringing the score equal just before the end of half time 2-2
All present were hoping for another exciting half and they were not to be disappointed. Potter was soon to hit the bar but this only made him dig deeper, and deservedly was soon to put the boys ahead for the first time. Winning the ball in the Delamere area and slotting the ball away 3-2.

Perry playing back to bolster the midfield was placing some useful balls up to Bell and making some good tackles. Bell narrowly struck one wide before he was subjected to a very late challenge from a Rangers player who was quickly shown a yellow card.
Martin, Hulme, and Campbell all playing well continued to smother any attacks from the Rangers. Perry took a long shot from the right just missing ! Poynton were pressing ahead relentlessly all players working hard. Then Paisley put a high ball into the area forcing a headed clearance, Perry with a determined run was first to the free ball on the right Perry then made run towards goal beating a defender well, slotting his second and Poyntons fifth clinically into the net.
The game ended with the boys second half performance out stripping their already good first period. Manager Campbell had a difficult job to award the man of the match award, finally deciding to award the whole Poynton side a shared reward.
