Poynton A v High Lane Juniors.
The boys welcomed High Lane Juniors to Deva fields they are fourth in the second division, in their ranks were Poynton old boys James Edwards ( Hodge) and Jake Haresnape. The Home side won the toss and elected to play into the wind and towards the Chester road end, the game kicked off and it was apparent that,again the boy’s were going to have a fight on their hands.
For the first fifteen minutes High Lane attacked on the flanks forcing Wadsworth to smother the ball on a couple of occasions,Cambell Kemp, Tweedy and Simpson tackling hard were going to have their stamina tested by Haresnape and company.
Poyntons first chance of the day fell to Hulme narrowly missing the goal,Simpson soon followed putting over the bar This match was going to be a real old fashioned cup tie full of exciting cut and thrust and near misses. Kelly battled all the way in mid field and distributed the ball well. Perry on getting the ball on the right saw Bell free in the area and crossed a beauty, Bell just putting over the bar. Hulme and Paisley were working hard to take the sting out of the visitors attack followed closely by Tweedy.
Every attack being thwarted by the visitors at this time, they won a free kick on the right, the kick was taken and from a good thirty yards out the ball came in high and bending into the top of the net Wadsworth had no chance 1 - Nil to the visitors.
This spurred the visitors on, whom were playing as though their lives depended on it.
Hodge made numerous saves foiling any attempt of a Poynton equaliser, and the High lane attack were running their socks off bringing the best out of Paisley, Tweedy, Hulme and Campbell.
A high ball was placed over the attacking Poynton player into the path of a visiting attacker,Wadsworth quick to see the danger stormed out winning the fifty fifty ball, only to place his clearance into the path of a High lane player whom hoofed the ball over the Keeper who was scrambling back to his net 2- Nil to the visitors. Bringing the first half to an end.
Manager Ian Cambell had a tough job on to turn this around. The home side came out for the second half rejuvenated and within five minutes Paisley Buried the ball into the back of the net with a powerful header from a Potter cross, 1-.2.
The game was restarted and was continuing to be a treat for all watching Potter, Kelly, Perry and Paisley all had narrow misses over the bar clipping the post hitting the bar how long was this going to last !
Potter was storming down the right and put the ball into the area Perry launched himself at the ball making contact with his shoulder deflecting the ball into the net 2- 2.
Off we go again the game restarts this time it was all Poynton, Potter devastating on the right fighting for every ball.
A free kick was given to Poynton, Potter instructed by Manager Campbell took the chance, the wind in his favour Potter didn’t disappoint and struck a Beauty giving Hodge no hope 3- 2 to Poynton.
The game was now all Poyntons and Kelly scored next and the game ended 4 - 2 to Poynton
