Inter Cheadle FC v Poynton A Date: 16 September 2007 Report: Inter Cheadle v Poynton Name: Philip Perry Match Report
The newly promoted Inter Cheadle FC played host to the boy’s at their new ground for Poynton’s opening game of the season. A warm breezy day promised good playing conditions and anticipation for a good game of football were high. Poynton won the toss and elected to play with the sun at their backs. The first ten minutes saw both team’s fighting to gain supremacy in midfield, however Poynton got the upper hand and the back four of Tweedy, Campbell, Kemp and Martin secured a sizable amount of possession .
Early attempts on goal by Perry and Bell narrowly failing to capitalize. Kelly almost put the boy’s ahead on twenty minutes glancing the cross bar with a well taken shot. Olly Simpson, Poynton’s captain worked hard to feed balls forward to the strikers in a concerted effort to put his team in the lead, on twenty five minutes Poynton went ahead from a well taken goal kick from keeper Wadsworth right into the path of an informed Bell who put away the shot very well. But Cheadle kept at it,and against the flow of play got an equalizer in extra time, the first half ending all square at one a piece.
The second half promised to be an entertaining affair and spectators on both sides weren’t to be disappointed. Having secured a high percentage of possession in the first half the boy’s had to battle again, against a very game Inter Cheadle side, the boy’s were in fact pinned into their own half for the first ten minutes. Poynton went behind to a well taken strike by Cheadle catching Wadsworth off his line in the 12th minute and it was game on! Poynton kept to the task and brought the game level at 2-2
Humez who had come on to play the second half was raring to go and he immediately made his presence felt with some good tackles letting the opposition know he was there. Perry seeing Potter open on the left and the Poynton new boy scoring a beauty from just inside the area. Cheadle continued to threaten with some good attacks, Poynton kept at their task. Perry, McClaren and Bell combining well supplying Potter with a chance which he again placed beautifully putting Poynton 3-2 up. The game restarted and the battle carried on - all player’s fighting well not giving any quarter ..
Potter went on the attack on the left passing a Cheadle full back and was on to score but was taken down in the area. The ref awarded a penalty to Poynton and Perry took on the responsibility bringing a good save from the Cheadle keeper who couldn’t hold the powerful shot. The ball coming free on the rebound and Poynton’s 4th was scored by a sharp thinking Kelly. The game came to an end, with all spectators showing their appreciation to both sides.
