Through and Off …the back and out of the race.

Race reports following the escapades of the Yorkies 3rd and 4th Cats

(and the 2nd Cat too - to keep Near-Vet Saint happy)

The Hippo finally snaps in the Batley RR 17-05-04

We were all time trialling up and down the A1 last week with some notable performances from Near-Vet, The Hip, Mountain Goat Meakin and Hammer  Houghton – I haven’t seen  the Results list but I reckon the Yorkies would be in contention for the team prize. A week later I find myself as the only Yorkie on the start line of The Batley CC Road Race on a course which (at last) didn’t seem to have a major climb. In fact I was still in the pack and in contention at the half way point when – “Pow! Up popped my fairy god mother with a, I’ll snap your chain routine”. Of course the chain snapped just as I stood on the pedals to accelerate off the front so that I was in full view of the peleton when I suffered my 2nd castration by saddle in as many months month (see Race Report 8 for the other). Oh how the other riders chuckled as they sped off into the distance leaving me to walk 6 miles back to Race HQ and by the time I finally arrived the race winners had received their prizes and were driving home. In one last cruel twist of fate, I spent much of Sunday afternoon with a hacksaw and pliers trying to remove the cleat screws from my cycling shoes because the walk had worn the screw heads down so much that they were as smooth as a baby’s bum. It’s a daft sport isn’t it?
