Mixing it with the 1st and 2nd Cats at GS Orion 4-05-04

It seemed a good idea at the time but entering the GS Orion Road Race was another example of throwing my race entry fee money away. Scheduled to be a 14 lap hum dinger with 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th cats I thought it would be good experience to mix it with the big guns. Unfortunately, I didn’t get much experience as I was dispatched from the pack in no uncertain terms on the 3rd lap so that by the time the race was winding up for the finishing sprint I was sitting in my garden sipping Coca Cola. Russell Hepton on the other hand was looking good and riding in the main pack when I departed. However, he didn’t feature in the BC results list so he either ‘packed’ or he was involved in a crash which obliterated the field leaving 14 riders to complete the race according to the BC race report. Anyway, imagine my surprise when I find myself listed as finishing 12th which was confirmed a week later when my prize money arrived in the post. Clearly, I need to rethink my approach to training and need to work on my new approach of sitting in the garden fantasising about winning races – I haven’t received any further prize money as yet but I am sure it is only a matter of time. I have also launched my new company Hippo’s Fantasy Training Programme and you can enrol at the introductory price of £50 /week. This includes an initial assessment where I determine your sitting position, your personal hydration package (Soft Drinks or Spirits) and your motivational aids (T.V. or magazines). Please make cheques payable to The Hippo.
