What is
Extinction?
Extinction can basically mean that the rate at
which the species are dying is greater than that of which it is been
produced, causing the specie to be endangered and then extinct.
Introduction
As with all extinct species, we can never know
if each one is truly extinct. Some of those listed here have not been seen
for almost 100 years. However, there is always a slim chance that intensive
surveys will rediscover species previously thought to be extinct. The recent
Megalagrion damselfly surveys
in the 1990s have shown that extensive surveying can sometimes reveal small
surviving populations of species otherwise thought to have been extinct for
many years.

Birds
Hawaii has twenty four extinct species of
birds. One of them includes the Laysan Rail.
Last Seen
This was classed as extinct in 1944 and last seen in 1943 .
Possible Reason for Extinction
The reason this specie became extinct was mainly due to the fact that it was
fearless of man and was often caught very easily.

Snails
Hawaii has at least seventy two extinct snails.
One of the extinct snails includes the Achatinella Apexfulva.
Last Seen
This specie of snail was classed as possible
extinct in 1985. Because of the nature of the specie it could never be
determined whether or not the specie has become completely extinct.
Possible Reason for Extinction
The reason for this specie possibly becoming
extinct has still never been determined and may never be confirmed.

Insects
Hawaii has at least seventy six extinct
insects.
Last Seen
Some of the extinct insects have not been seen
since 1893, this would certainly suggest a possibility of extinction.
Possible Reason for Extinction
The reason for this specie possibly becoming extinct has still never been
determined and may never be confirmed.
