Circa:
Are a four piece from Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire.
Mike, Drew, Dave and Matt
first joined forces back in early 1996. The common link being a passion for
British 60's R'n'B, Soul and late 70's New Wave, plus the emergence of an
inspirational five piece from Manchester (Oasis) which led them to form a band.
The main influences at this time being Oasis, The Jam, The Who and The Small
Faces. After playing a few local gigs
the band developed a loyal following which thankfully still remains today. It
was at this time the band (known as Retro) began to play many Hull and East
Yorkshire venues along side the Grimsby/North Lincolnshire pub circuit. During
this period a sizable Hull following
emerged. A name change was made in mid 1998 the MOD influence apparent as
MINDS EYE was chosen,
and
the gigs kept coming.
But by November 1999 after three years and some two hundred dates the band had
lost interest. Their final gig being at the Red Lion in Caistor.
All was quiet for two years until in May 2001 at Mike's 30th birthday bash the
musical flame was rekindled. Rehearsals took place during the summer and
autumn and in December 2001 CIRCA: played their comeback gig to a packed
Hainton Inn in Grimsby. Since then the boys have played many Scooter Rallies
and annual do's as well as some great nights at the Bootlegger Cleethorpes.
