Catbalu is a registered
prefix with the
Governing Council of the Cat Fancy.
I have been breeding British Shorthair kittens since 1984, and specialise
in the following colours: White, Black, Chocolate, Lilac, Red, Blue, Cream
in self, tortie, bi-
and tri-colour.
In 2000 I acquired my first Cinnamon series stud boy,
and have been working towards the development of British Shorthairs in
Cinnamon and Fawn self, tortie, bi- and tri-colour.
January 2003 saw the arrival of my first Selkirk Rex stud
boy from the US (after a six month holiday in the South of France - polishing
up on his technique, no doubt!). I will be aiming to breed these wonderful
cats in my signature colours/patterns plus as many other patterns as I
can think of!
I joined CatTica
club in December 2004 and successfully showed my Selkirk Rex boy at the
first TICA show
in the UK and was granted my cattery name Ticatbalu
in February 2005.
My first Scottish Fold baby arrived in July 2005.

IW SGC CATBALU INDIANA
Indy is a second generation UK bred Selkirk, his grandfather is Grand Champion Dahozho Cody whom I imported from Jean Kelley in the US. I showed Cody at the very first TICA show in the UK at Wolverhampton in December 2004, where he gained his title (being the first Selkirk Rex to be shown under TICA in the UK).
Indy has had a really impressive show career in TICA having achieved Best of Breed in TICA's Europe North division and second Best of Breed internationally in 2005/2006. In 2006/2007 he became the first UK cat of any breed to become an International BOB winner, and the first Selkirk Rex adult outside of the USA to achieve Int BOB. He also became a Supreme Grand Champion.
In the last show season (2007/2008) there were 3815 cats in competition in TICA - Indy was third best International All Breed Cat! He was second best International Shorthair Cat and Best AB and SH in Europe North. He was also International BOB, the highest place Selkirk (Shorthair or Longhair) in International Standings ever and the first one outside of the US to become an International Winner.
To achieve this, he only competed in a total of 13 shows over 22 days in 116 rings. He was finalled (in the top 10) in 93 of these rings and was Best Cat in 33 of them. He was Best of Best in 7 of the 13 shows.
This show season saw 5 cats (4 adults 1 alter) from the UK become IW for the first time, Indy was the only cat to just be shown in the UK and highest placed of them all.
He is currently having a well earned rest from TICA (even though he loves it) and his sons Catbalu Crème Royale (Roy) and Catbalu Ace of Spades have taken up the mantel. Roy is currently a Grand Champion and Ace is a Quadruple Grand Champion and is also sitting in Int BOB at the moment.
