The Prayers formed in early 2004. Drummer, Stewart Drummond, 26 and singer John Johnston, 24 met whilst auditioning for a band in Glasgow. Unimpressed by what they were auditioning for, but impressed by their own talents and enthusiasm they decided to put their own band together. They spent a couple of months writing songs together then set about holding their own additions. With little success they turned to Stewart's younger brother, Graham Drummond, 22, to join the band as Bass player. After trying out lots of Guitarists and by this time getting very frustrated, it took a chance meeting at a funeral between John and a younger cousin to put the final jigsaw piece in the puzzle. Mark Rowan, 22 hadn't seen his cousin for over 10 years. In this time he had spent hours playing the guitar and by chance they met, and realized that they had so much in common. The Prayers line up was complete.

The prayers wear their influences proudly on their sleeves. Inspired by bands like The Stone Roses, U2, The Beatles, Joy Division and The Who, to name but a few they set about writing songs. After months of intense practice they hit the road in early 2005 and have been playing around Scotland regularly for the last 6 months. Their stage show is a spirited performance, that will get your feet tapping, heart pounding and leave you with a sense that something special is about to kick off.

The Prayers together are making music for the people. Fed up by the recent influx of art school bands and 70's throwbacks, they write and perform music that is grounded in today. They sing about issues that effect everyday life and their music helps to blow away the mundane. The Prayers want to spread the word and together they are determined to get their message heard.

Guitarist Mark Rowan, recently met Roddy McKenna, ex A&R man for Silvertone Records and responsible for discovering The Stone Roses. Whilst back stage at an lan Brown concert in Greenock a drunken Mark thrust his demo tape on Roddy after a chance meeting at the bar. Roddy was impressed by the demo and after witnessing some recent live performances, he decided to help The Prayers spread their word.
